Red Cloud Outing March 2009 Report

Posted by Josh on March 26th, 2009

The meeting place was the big open dirt area at the Red Cloud exit off the 10 freeway, about 35 miles east of Indio.  The scheduled time to head back to the Claims was set for 9:00am sharp.

Cathy and I had caravanned from Hemet with two other cars (5 other prospectors) and arrived about 8:30am.  Much to our surprise and pleasure there were several others already waiting.  As the time reached closer to 9:00am several others arrived and when we were ready to head back we had very nice group of at least 20.

The weather was sunny with almost no breeze as we started back to the claims.  Acting Wagonmaster Gary lead the group in and Cathy and I followed from the rear.

There are three GPAA claims in this area, the Rusty Sieve, the Red Cloud and the Bumper Cactus and all suggest the use of Drywashers and Metal Detectors and claim fine to small nugget gold.  The roads are rough in spots and the claims directory suggests that you bring lots of water.

When we arrived at the claim area we learned that TSS (Treasure Seekers of San Diego) had also scheduled their outing for Red Cloud.  So we all filled the canyon with eager prospectors.

Everyone started picking their spots and setting up their equipment and before long the search for gold was under way.

Around noon a check of most everyone found that a few flakes had been found in the crevices and on the bedrock.

All in all I think everyone had a good time and enjoyed the spring desert with flowers and warm weather.

Please see Photo Gallery, who knows you may see yourself or someone you know.
