TVP December Meeting & Christmas Party

Posted by Tracy on 5th December 2009

Merry ChristmasHo Ho Ho and a Merry Christmas to all!

Next Saturday, December 12th, is our monthly club meeting and the annual Temecula Valley Prospectors Christmas Party.

The meeting will go from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and the pot luck and raffle will go from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

This is always a fun event, so I hope you can make it. If you are planning on attending, please bring wrapped, non-gender, gifts/donations for the table with a suggested value between $10 & $20. We are also having a Pot Luck, so be sure to contact Sue or Diane to see what you can bring. They can be reached at refreshments@gpaatvp.com.

Desert FoxDid you see the new item we have for the Grand Prize Raffle? It is a Desert Fox Automatic Gold Panning Machine and we introduced it at last month’s meeting (November).

If you’ve ever panned large amounts of concentrates, you know how long it takes and how much you ache, especially the lower back, when you’re finally done. With an automatic panning machine, it is as simple as adding the concentrates to the machine and watching the gold slide up the spirals and into your collection cup.

If you’ve never seen one of these in action, be sure to be at the meeting this month (12/12/2009) as I will be bringing my own Desert Fox to show you how it works. I will talk about the machine, give you some tips on how to get the most out of it, and will actually run some concentrates through so you can see how well it really works.

Whether you are a seasoned, competition winning, gold panner, or a beginner just starting out, I think you will be impressed with what the Desert Fox can do and how much time it can save you.

Remember that everyone is welcome at our club meetings, so bring your friends and family next Saturday, December 12th, for some good ol’ prospecting fun. We meet at the Temecula Community Center located at 28816 Pujol St., Temecula CA and we hope to see you there.

November Outing At East Fork

Posted by Tracy on 16th November 2009

November’s outing will be at East Fork on the San Gabriel River. This is GPAA Site CA-71 in the old Gold book and CA-25 in the new Green book.

The weather can be cold so be prepared for it. The best method is by layering your clothes. If you get too warm, you take some off. If you get too cold, put some back on.  The river has flow, so be prepared for getting wet too. There is good prospecting there and up stream as well. The terrain is steep so be forewarned.

If you are planning on going, be sure to contact Jay for information about the meeting place.
Wagonmaster Jay at (909) 821-0979

============================================

Special Note From Greg Fox:

I wanted to let you know that the San Gabriel “no Prospecting” issue that the Forest Service has been pushing is still not settled per Jerry Hobbs at PLP as of Sunday 11/15.  Here is what he said:

Jerry Hobbs: I have had 2 meetings with the FS in the last 10 days. They stand by their position that prospecting is no allowed and we stand by our that it is allowed.

The FS has never allowed prospecting in the 20 years that I have been involved but the prospecting has continued and no one has ever been cited. All of those who have been prospecting for the last 20 years have been opposing the FS position and things have not changed.

The FS will probably not cite you for prospecting but could cite you for a recreational violation under 36 cfr 261. If you google 36 cfr 261 and read it you will see that they can cite you for several things that any forest user could be cited under, such as littering.

At the time the Forest has an extreme fire warning and they are asking the prospectors not to use any motorized equipment on the forest, whether they will cite you would be another thing.

I can not tell you anymore than that, you will just have to use your own discretion.

The club might not have any issues up there during the outing this weekend, but it would be a bummer to have lots of people go up and then get shut down by a zealous ranger.

November TVP Meeting

Posted by Tracy on 10th November 2009

The November TVP meeting will be held on Saturday, November 14th, 2009. We will be starting at 9:00 am, but the doors will be open at 8:00 am if you want to come early.

Don’t forget that we have a new meeting place: Temecula Community Center located at 28816 Pujol St., Temecula CA.

This month we have a new grand prize for the raffle… a Desert Fox Spiral Panning Maching from Camel Mining Products.

Desert Fox

The Desert Fox is the original spiral panning device that was first introduced back in 1969 as the Little Camel. There are many copycat machines out there, but the Desert Fox is top notch. I personally have a Desert Fox and just love it. It is just amazing to watch it in action and see the gold walking up the spirals.

The club meetings are an excellent forum to meet with your fellow prospectors and treasure hunters. It is the perfect setting to talk about your recent outings and learn what’s been going on with everyone else.

I hope to see you there.

October Outing - Stratton Claim Barstow California

Posted by Tracy on 14th October 2009

The Temecula Valley Prospectors October outing will be held this Saturday, October 17th, at the GPAA Stratton claim (CA-63) which is just North of Barstow. The group will be meeting Wagon Master Jay Picone at 8:00 am and he will lead the caravan out to the claim around 8:15 am. The meeting location is at the intersection of Irwin Road and Copper City Road in Barstow. Click here for a Google map of the meeting place.

This claim is located on USGS Topo map “Mud Hills” which can be downloaded by clicking here. Note: This is an 8MB Zip file and may take a little bit to download on a slower connection.

Please remember that this is a wilderness area and you should bring the appropriate gear for being in such an area. This is a dry claim in a desert terrain, so you should have plenty of water for drinking and panning. The weather forecast is a high of 92 in Barstow on Saturday, so you’ll probably want some sun screen and a hat or some other type of shade.

If you have any questions about the outing, please contact Jay directly at wagonmaster@gpaatvp.com.

Have a great time and Happy Prospecting!
