Metal Detecting Event at Oro Grande

Posted by TVP on 21st March 2011

Metal MetectingAttention All Metal Detectors!

On Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Oro Grande Mining Jamboree, Temecula Valley Prospectors will be hosting two (2) metal detecting hunts. The first one will be at 9:00 am and the 2nd one will be at 4:00 pm.

The winner of each hunt will be awarded a brand new sluice box, so you definitely want to get in on these.

The entry fee is $10 for one hunt (your choice, 9 am or 4 pm) or $20 for both hunts.

John from Legends Prospecting Supplies is coordinating the event, so it should be a great time for all. He will be able to go over the rules of the hunt and answer any questions you may have once you get to Oro Grande.

Just make sure you bring your normal gear (i.e. detector, digging tool, collection pouch, etc.) so you are ready for the hunt. Also, the ground where the events will be is pretty sandy, so you’ll probably want your beach scoop too.

Get out there and have some fun!

Oro Grande Mining Camp Jamboree

Posted by TVP on 19th March 2011

March 31, 2011 to April 3, 2011:
Temecula Valley Prospectors is hosting a Mining Jamboree in Oro Grande at the Roy Rogers horse ranch near Victorville, CA.

Oro Grande is Spanish for “big gold.” It is located off an old western California trail (now called Route 66). Oro Grande is just northeast of Victorville, CA. There are all kinds of old claims in and around Oro Grande for several miles.

Roy Rogers RanchWe are going to have all kinds of equipment for gettin’ that gold and etc. out of good potential tailings from claims in and around the area. Why, there is even going to be metal detecting, and there will be special prospecting games for the young and little prospectors, too.

This event is being held at the Roy Rogers Horse Ranch. The new owners, Anne and Eric Enriquez, are graciously letting us hold this event there. You will be able to see Roy Rogers’ barn that is the exact replica that was at the Republic Studios western movie set. They also have a very nice building separate from the main house that has several memorabilia-items in it of Roy & Dale’s history.

There will be food and other kinds of vendors participating and we’ve lined up some top notch entertainment too.

  • The Cross Town Cowboys will be bringing us some great western music at two different times on Saturday, April 2nd.
  • Then we have one of the best old western enactment groups: The Code of the West bringing their 80-foot long old west stunt town to use for their shows.
  • Finally, we have CRICKIT. He’s a magician, comedian and balloon artist.  His family will be there with him doing face painting and working with the kids at his game trailer.

There are over 70 acres to get out and explore with a river, timber, horses and other farm animals on the property, you’ll have plenty to do. There is even a large ostrich ranch down the road a piece, so you may just find a huge egg out by your campfire in the morning.

There will be all kinds of auto and RV parking; water and dump station is on site and available now. Some electric hookups will be made available for RVs. We even have room for you tent campers, so don’t feel like you’re being left out.

Admission for the event is only $6.00 per car and $8.00, so the cost shouldn’t keep you away.

You can bring your own food and drinks or purchase your goodies from the on-site vendors. It would be a good idea to bring your own camping chairs and basic camping gear (i.e. flashlights, lanterns, chairs, sunscreen, bug spray, etc.). Anything that you may need to make yourself comfortable… bring it along.

Volunteers needed! We know there are some people at home that just need something to do, some place to go, where you feel needed. Please give us a call and be part of our family of staff volunteers. We need you! You get in free and we’ll even feed ya, effen’ you are a good worker. We need parking/security regulators, food handling staff, children and games regulators, and prospecting equipment/vendor regulators. All our volunteers will be given a special event badge. If you want to help, please call Gary or Beverly Lawson at 951-679-8438 or email them at gary_bevlawson@verizon.net and let them know you want to help.

This is going to be a great event for the entire family, so come on out and have a great time!

Directions:

  • From Victorville, take “D” Street West, which becomes North “D” and the National Trails Highway. Stay to your right after you go under the 15 Freeway. You can also just use the 15 Freeway.
  • Continue on National Trails, that use to be Highway 66.  Go three miles past Oro Grande and the big Riverside Cement Plant (you will pass Robinson Ranch Road).
  • Turn LEFT on Bryman Road (you’ll see the white fences of Harrison Farms).
  • Go OVER the railroad tracks and take an IMMEDIATE left on a dirt road.
  • Continue straight on the dirt road until it ends in front of the Ranch fence.
  • Turn right on Roy Rogers Road just a few yards to the entrance gate. Drive in and park near the barn with the big double “R” on the front and come on in.
  • You’re at the Roy Rogers Double R Bar Ranch!

Grand Prize Poll Added

Posted by Tracy on 25th August 2010

Grand Prize PollOn August 16th, Ken made a post on the TVP Forum asking what everyone would like to see for the next grand prize and though there has been a little chatter over there, I really thought I should get it out to everyone. To help facilitate the data collection, I have added a new feature to the main TVP site for Polls. I have setup a new poll for the next Grand Prize and have added several items to choose from, including a None of the Above category in case you have something else in mind.

I think this will be a great way to see what the majority of members are looking for and make the grand prize an exciting event.

Please remember that the Grand Prize raffle isn’t intended to be given away each month like the items on the normal raffle table. It is designed to be given away around every three to four months (3-4 times a year) which allows the club to get items that wouldn’t normally be available.

The poll is open now and will stay open until September 9th at 8:00pm, so please take a moment and cast your vote today… we are counting on your input!

Happy Prospecting!

Ranger Assaulted in Angeles National Forest

Posted by Tracy on 20th August 2010

Ranger Airlifted to County-USC Medical Center

Ranger Airlifted to County-USC Medical Center

August 18, 2010

AZUSA – A man struck an unarmed Angeles National Forest ranger in the face with an unknown object today, knocking him unconscious, authorities said.

The forest protection officer was in the East Fork Ranger Station in the San Gabriel Mountains at 24700 East Fork Road when he heard a knock on the door and someone asked him if he could use his phone.

When the ranger opened the door, he was struck in the face with an unknown object and knocked unconscious, according to Capt. Mike Parker of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

When he awoke, he called 911, with the sheriff’s San Dimas Sheriff’s Station receiving the call at 3:40 p.m.

The suspect was described as being in his 20s and driving a green Mitsubishi Eclipse.

The ranger was airlifted to County-USC Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available, but one station reported he was going in and out of consciousness.

Azusa and Glendora police joined the sheriff’s department in looking for the suspect. Cars matching the description of the suspect vehicle were being checked.

“We do not know the reason for this bizarre and seemingly unprovoked attack,” Parker said.
The District Attorney’s Crimes Against Police Officers Unit is also on the case, Parker said.

For our members who frequent the East Fork area, please be careful out there and be extra aware of those around you.

If you are going on the outing this weekend, please take a moment to stop in at the Ranger Station to inquire how the assaulted officer is doing. If someone could drop off a get well card from the club, that would be great too.

GPAA Commercial

Posted by Ken on 16th August 2010

The GPAA is looking for a local young couple, GPAA members, 25 – 35 years old for a 30 second commercial they’re shooting around here. They’ll be metal detecting together out in the desert and speaking from a script into the camera. Also there is hugging at one point so a couple is ideal. They are paying $100 for each person and taking care of expenses as well.

If you are interested, send your contact information (i.e. names of the couple, address, phone, ages, GPAA member number, etc.) and a photo to Chris Culp at the GPAA. Chris is the GPAA editor and his email address is  cculp@goldprospectors.org.

If you have any questions, you can contact Chris directly using the email address above or at (951) 699-4749 x160.
